Another Freddie Roach-trained Filipino fighter will attempt to take a significant step toward a title shot on August 21.

BoxingScene.com has learned that undefeated Mark Magsayo and Julio Ceja have agreed to meet in a WBC featherweight elimination match at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on the undercard of Errol Spence Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao. The 12-round, 126-pound bout between Magsayo of the Philippines and Ceja of Mexico will air on FOX before the pay-per-view portion of the Pacquiao vs Spence Jr Live Stream show.

Magsayo (22-0, 15 KOs), who is co-promoted by Pacquiao's company, is ranked fifth in the world at 126 pounds by the WBC. Ceja is the WBC's 11th-ranked featherweight contender (32-4-1, 28 KOs).

If the fight does not end in a draw, the winner will be one step closer to facing long-reigning WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. (31-1, 18 KOs).

Magsayo, 26, knocked out Mexico's Pablo Cruz (21-4, 6 KOs) in the fourth round of his most recent bout, a non-televised eight-rounder on April 10 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Magsayo and Pacquiao are both trained by Roach.

Ceja, 28, is 0-2-1 in his last three fights, but the former WBC super bantamweight champion came close to pulling off an upset in his most recent fight.

In November 2019, he defeated Brandon Figueroa on one scorecard, 116-112. Figueroa defeated him on another card, 115-113, and a third judge scored their 12-round, 122-pound championship match even, 114-114, on the undercard of Deontay Wilder-Luis Ortiz at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Ceja, who lives in Palmdale, California, hasn't fought in 19 months after facing Figueroa (22-0-1, 17 KOs) in what was supposed to be a fight for Figueroa's WBA world super bantamweight title. Ceja, who was unusually overweight, weighed in at 12612 pounds for their 122-pound title fight and was thus ineligible to win Figueroa's belt.

As a result, Ceja has increased his weight from 122 pounds to 126 pounds in order to meet Magsayo.

Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) will defend his IBF and WBC welterweight titles against Pacquiao in the main event (62-7-2, 39 KOs).

Pacquiao, 42, will return to the ring after a two-year hiatus against Spence of DeSoto, Texas, in a FOX Sports Pay-Per-View bout. The Filipino southpaw hasn't boxed since a split decision win over previously unbeaten Keith Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs, 1 NC) in July 2019 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for Thurman's WBA "super" welterweight title.
