South Korean high jumper Woo Sang-hyuk (Yongin City Hall) has qualified for the World Championships with a fourth-place finish.
Woo Sang-hyuk cleared 2.28 meters to finish fourth in the men's high jump qualifying round at the 2023 World Athletics Championships at the Budapest National Stadium in Hungary on Tuesday (July 20).
On the day, Woo cleared 2.14, 2.18 and 2.22 in the first round and 2.25 in the second round. He cleared 2.28 meters in the first round to qualify for the final.
The automatic qualifying mark for the final was 2.30 meters. However, out of the 36 athletes who competed on the day, 13 finalists were determined, including a tie for 12th place at 2.28 meters.
At last year's World Championships in Eugene, USA, Seung-hyuk became the first Korean to win a silver medal in the event. He trained in Germany ahead of the event and 토토 traveled 700 kilometers by land after his flight was canceled. Despite the setback, it didn't affect his performance.
He jumped over 2.25 meters in the second round and showed his trademark flair.
Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar), the strongest man in the field, cleared 2.22m, 2.25m and 2.28m in the first round.
Ryoichi Akamatsu (JPN) also cleared 2m28 to join Barshim and Jubon Harrison (USA) in the final.
Woo also cleared 2.28 meters, but one miss at 2.25 meters dropped him to fourth in the qualifying standings.
Woo will try to win his second consecutive World Championships medal in the final on Wednesday.
